Exporting DNA for Chip Development
The collection, storage, testing and import and export of human DNA falls within the remit of the EU Tissue directive (Directive 2004/23/EC). This and subsequent regulations required member states to incorporate the directives into national law allowing for some derogation for consistency with existing legislation.

In the UK this took the form of the Human Tissue Act 2004 (which established the Human Tissue Authority – the regulatory body with executive powers).
